The Revival of the Audio Book
After 70 years audio books are still going strong. Nowadays it is very easy to download audio books from the Internet, which makes them more popular then ever before.
A short history of the audio book
In 1920 the Royal National Institute for the Blind in England was already doing research on how to create audio books for the blind. At that time there were a lot of ex World War 1 soldiers who had gone blind as a result of the fighting. In 1926 the RNIB started to use LP's to record audio books which could be played on record players (the kind with the big horn, you had to swing a handle a couple of times before it would play).
In 1936 the "Talking Book Service" was launched. The first two books were:' The murder of Roger Ackroyd' by Agatha Christie and Joseph

In the tribal benediction pronounced upon Judah and the tribe of which he was the founder, the term lion's whelp symbolized strength. Therefore, the emblem on the banner of the Tribe of Judah was a lion. The same symbolism is found in Masonic ritual and has enjoyed several philosophical and theological interpretations.
To our Christian brethren, the phrase "Lion of the Tribe of Judah" refers to the Messiah, who is said to have brought light and immortality into the world. To our Jewish brethren, Judah was the fourth son of the patriarch Jacob and represents the fourth point discussed in ancient Freemasonry. Both Kings David and Solomon are also said to have descended from the Tribe of Judah. However, there is a more ancient usage of the lion's paw that may have application to the Masonic mysteries.
Candidates who successfully passed the Mithraic initiations were called Lions and were marked

"Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art
gone up: he stooped down, he crouched as a lion,
and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?"

"Catcher in The Rye" is JD Salinger's a only novel. Although it only has tens of thousand words, it has exerted a tremendous impact in American society and literature. In 1951, the birth of this novel caused an immediate sensation. The experiences and ideas of the hero received a strong positive response from the readers, especially the high school students. They imitated the hero Holden's dressing, spoke "Holden-style" language, because the novel told of their voices, reflected their vision, harsh and aspirations. Parents and literary works also debated about in this book. On the one hand, some believe the novel can enable young people to increase their understanding of life and enhancing their alert on the ugly reality in order to prompt them to choose a path of self-love. Adults can enhance the understanding of teenagers through this book. While some people think it is a bad book, for that

Although Tightrope is only just over 400 pages, and 50 of those are footnotes this book definitely goes in the saga category. It is an impressive work that comes as a result of over 20 years research. In a nutshell it follows one single family and its various branches through over six centuries of upheaval.
If you ask the average man in the street to describe the plight of the Jewish people, almost everyone will zone in on the current situation in Israel, and the events that unfolded during World War Two when the Nazi's attempted to annihilate the entire race. Few people realize that horrific as the Holocaust was, it was hardly the first time that Jews had been persecuted. In fact the persecution can be documented from biblical times onward.
Michael Karpin follows one single family, the Backenroth's, the tale begins in 1350 with their perilous trek from what is

There are two very clear types of Historical Fiction, those that are merely set against a historical backdrop and the historical events are mere bit players recessed into the color commentary. The second type of book is a much different beast, take a historical event, place it in center stage and weave your tale around it using a combination of factual and fictional characters and events. This type of book is far harder to construct, extreme care to detail must be used, particularly if the historical event is well documented. History buffs will have your head if you get the slightest detail wrong!
An Obsolete Honor most certainly falls into the second category. The events of July, 20 1944 in Berlin are well documented. Known as the Valkyrie Plot and subject of a brand new movie staring Tom Cruise, this attempt on Adolf Hitler's life has been the subject of many
